The Yukon Gold Folk Club is a concert series presenting small-scale performances by independent songwriters for engaged audiences. Hosting story-forward music in an environment where active listening is held in high esteem, YGFC is a pop-up listening room in downtown Guelph.
Embracing a progressive and expansive interpretation of “Folk,” YGFC prioritizes story over style, puts community before commodity, and eschews strict genre categories in favour of a story well-told.
I’ve had the great privilege of making music with Moonfruits for the better part of a decade, and I’m thrilled to be presenting them here in Guelph through the Yukon Gold Folk Club. Kaitin & Alex write songs that are compassionate, curious, and timely, and it’s been a joy and honour to grow alongside them as friends, musicians, and community members. From a white-knuckling-for-eleven-hours-through-rural-New-Brunswick snowstorm, to accidentally tripping electrical breakers and killing the lights in multiple Belgian venues, to tasting the salted butter in a German medieval village and spontaneously weeping, these are dear friends whom I trust and admire as singers, songwriters, and co-conspirators.
One drawback to frequently sharing a stage with Moonfruits is that I rarely get to enjoy their performance from the audience. So, I’m just as stoked as I hope you are to be seeing them on June 2! They’re cooking-up a new bilingual song cycle of which I’ve only heard small samples, and I can’t wait to see where these new stories take us.
