Encaustic and mixed media artist.
My journey as an artist started as a commercial photographer. When I was given the opportunity to teach very early photographic printing techniques at a college in Toronto I came to realize that I loved the hands on, tactical, physical experience of creating art. This led me to explore how else I could incorporate my photography into tactical art pieces. My first few experiments were a flop, I tried using things like wall paper paste, shoe glue and multiple different types of paper. The experimentation process was a great joy though. It gave my inner child a chance to come out explore without judgement. I finally settled on encaustics and photography and I have never looked back. I still continue to explore new techniques within encaustics and find contentment in the failures and successes.
I find my work directly responds to my surrounding environment and I tend to use every day experiences as a starting point. Often these are framed instances that would go unnoticed in their original context, snippets of time and place.
With a subtle minimalist approach, I create work in which a fascination with the clarity of content and an uncompromising attitude towards conceptual art can be found.
